A Guide to Custom Jewelry Design

Spectrum Gallery offers a complete array of custom jewelry design services that include:

Pure custom - designed and created from scratch, using your gems and metals or ours.

Creating a unique mounting using components from one of our many suppliers.

Gallery owner, Star Sosa (left), is an award-winning jewelry designer with twenty years of experience.  In your design interview, she will determine what options are best suited to your design needs, the necessary technical requirements, and your budget.

Consider bringing in your old jewelry (gold or platinum) for sale, reuse of materials, or store credit.  Gold must be at least 10k, no silver or gold fill/plate.  You may be surprised with some of the suggestions Star has for making the best use of your old jewelry.

Once you have made your personal design appointment with Star, there are a few things you should think about in order to be prepared:

  • Do you have old jewelry, precious metals, or gemstones you wish to use? Or credit against your account?  If not, don't worry, we can procure most any material or gem you desire.
  • What styles do you prefer? Classic or modern? Symetrical or Asymetrical? Delicate or substantial?
  • How do you plan to wear your piece of jewelry?  Daily or just for special occasions?  Are you hard on your jewelry?
  • Cut out photos from magazines of styles that you like.  We won't duplicate something by another designer, but we can mix up elements & styles to get you a truly unique piece with similiar flavor.
  • It's a good idea to bring receipts and/or appraisals of high value items such as large diamonds.  We will need to document value for insurance purposes.
  • Most importantly, be ready to be creative and have fun!
